Crested Butte is well known for being a prime location for leaf lookers, as the worlds largest aspen grove is just minutes outside of town. The article recommends the West Elk Loop – traveling through Crested Butte, Gunnison, Paonia and Carbondale, but there are lots of options for leaf peeping nearby. Day trips over Kebler Pass, Ohio Creek Pass and Cottonwood Pass offer some truly incredible fall scenery with spectacular pockets of gold aspens among the evergreens and commanding mountain vistas. This Slavic festival begins with the Celebration of the Harvest Mother on Sept 18th and concludes with a bonfire party on Sept 24th. The week is filled with storytelling, music, a parade, harvests and feasting. This year marks the 32nd annual Vinotok.
