As Snowpocalypse 2017 Hits Crested Butte, the community which is normally unaffected by large storms seems to have finally met their match. Sixty-nine inches of snow has fallen in the last 7 days in our wonderful Crested Butte! Being neck deep in powder (in earlier January) is beyond awesome, but it has some unexpected drawbacks. Western State University closed for the first time in …maybe ever? The Crested Butte Community School closed its doors for the first time in recent history and the real kicker was when Crested Butte Mountain Resort shut down operations Monday “for the safety of our guests and employees”, according to a post on the CBMR powcam. With fifteen feet of snow (180 inches) already this ski season…and more on the way, it’s looking like this will be a year for the record books! It may take a day or two for snow removal personnel to get caught up, but everything is expected to be business as usual in no time. If you can, get out and take advantage of this unique weather event as Snowpocalypse 2017 Hits Crested Butte and be safe out there!
