Ski. Shovel. Repeat. Just another day in Crested Butte’s snow of a lifetime. A video from the Denver Post captures some of the magic that is happening in Crested Butte this season. After more than 100 inches of snow fell in Crested Butte the first 12 days of January, life in the Last Great Ski Town has been a little more exciting than usual. This season, Crested Butte has been graced with record levels of snow and we are all pretty stoked about it! Already surpassing last years snow totals for the entire season, the skiing is phenomenal right now and only expected to get better with more snow on the way! Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s world famous extreme terrain in buried under eight feet of base, covering up rocks and other obstacles and leaving behind meadows of soft snow just waiting to be explored. The stoke level is HIGH.
Unfortunately, right after the big storm, the avalanche danger was also high. The Crested Butte Mountain Resort Ski Patrol worked tirelessly to keep us safe and we REALLY appreciate them! Read more about our hard working ski patrol in Crested Butte’s skiing soldiers in a snowy crusade to tame avalanche danger. They are experienced, meticulous and above all – thorough, so the next time you hear a bomb go off, remember how hard patrol works behind the scenes, so that we can all safely enjoy this incredible gift from Mother Nature. And if you’re planning on leaving the safety of the resort, make sure you are prepared with the right equipment for the back country and the latest condition reports from the Colorado Avalanche Center and the Crested Butte Avalanche Center.
If you’re lucky enough to be in Crested Butte right now, I hope you’re having the time of your life! If you’re checking in from somewhere else, have a look at these photos of homes buried in snow and start planning your next trip now!
