First Trampe Ranch Parcel Transaction Completed
Efforts to conserve 6,000 acres of prime ranch land in Gunnison County saw a huge step forward on Friday, February 17th with the first of three closings, the completion of the 1,447 acre Trampe Home Ranch conservation easement. These conservation easements will keep this Gunnison Valley property open and in the ranching business.
“This land has been the heart of our ranch for more than 100 years,” said Bill Trampe. “The meadows and pastures are the resource base for ranch production, and also provide habitat for Gunnison sage-grouse and other wildlife species. Conservation of our home place means this land is available forever for agriculture.”
The first closing of the 1,447 acres focused on the Trampe Home Ranch with $3.8 million in funding that came primarily through a Federal Natural Resources Conservation Service Grant for protection of Gunnison sage-grouse habitat. Additional funds came from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO). This is a huge step in preserving a very significant ranch in Colorado and the Gunnison Valley history.
We should see the second closing, on the Trampe Ranch Jack’s Cabin meadow sometime this summer and the third closing in spring of 2018, completing the 6,000 acre transaction and permanently protecting 2,647 acres in the Upper East River Valley.
