The charming Cristiana Guesthaus, located on Maroon Avenue in Crested Butte, welcomes new owners – the Melville family. The Melville family is third generation owners of the historic Mountain Chalet Ski Lodge which started in 1954 in Aspen, CO. The Cristiana Guesthaus and its “old time” charm reminds the family of their Aspen property in its early days.
“People talk about Crested Butte being like Aspen 40 years ago. The Cristiana is a lot like the Mountain Chalet used to be 40 years ago,” says Craig Melville, innkeeper for the Mountain Chalet.
The youngest of Ralph and Marian Melville’s eight children, Craig learned the importance of hospitality from a young age. The family tradition carries on as Craig’s niece Hannah and her husband will be managing the Cristiana Guesthaus while living onsite with their two young children. The 21-room Cristiana Guesthaus was owned by the Catmur family since 1988. The $1.668 Million sale closed on April 18, 2017 and has been a smooth transition to its new owners. Loyal guests will be happy to hear that no changes are planned for either the Cristiana Guesthaus or Mountain Chalet. “We’ll learn from each other and make improvements, but we’ll continue our focus on providing comfortable lodging and amenities in a beautiful setting at reasonable prices.”
