It’s no surprise that Crested Butte makes the list of America’s 10 Best Mountain Bike Towns. With over 700 miles of singletrack ranging from rugged backcountry terrain to trails meandering through fields of wildflowers, you can easily fill a week or two riding Crested Butte. There are several trails not far from town for those who don’t want to venture too far off the beaten path. The beginner-friendly Lupine Trail, lined with wildflowers in late June and into July, follows the bike path from town, up the mountain to the ski area and back. The Evolution Bike Park offers more than 30 miles of heart racing downhill trails as well as cross-country trails. Other notable bike trails you shouldn’t miss when here are The Upper Loop, Deadman Gulch, Trail 401, Reno, Flag and Bear, just to name a few. Crested Butte attracts riders from all over the world who come to experience some of the most spectacular bike-accessed breathtaking scenery in the entire country. Known as the “Birthplace of Mountain Biking” the bike culture here goes back into the 70’s when riders would tackle Pearl Pass on their single speed bikes. Crested Butte also boasts the oldest mountain bike festival in the country with the Crested Butte Bike Week which runs the last weekend in June.
