Crested Buttians Spoke, Vail Listened. March 1st Crested Butte Mountain Resort announced that they would begin clearing the beloved Crested Butte PowCam at 5am daily instead of the traditional end-of-day 4pm clearing. Their reasoning? To better support their efforts to provide accurate snow reporting. This decision however had much of town in an uproar. “What we really want to know is how much snow has fallen since the lifts stopped spinning the day before” was heard from many throughout town over the past week. We want to know how tomorrow’s powder day is going to shape up!
Well, Crested Buttians have spoken and Vail listened. March 8th a revamped PowCam was revealed featuring a plexiglass divider down the middle. It’s like having two in one now. Groomers can continue gathering their 5am readings from the left side while the right side will be cleared daily at 4pm. Those looking to hit the slopes will know how much snow has fallen since the lifts closed the day prior.
