Crested Butte Collection Newsletter
April 2020 Edition
The final weeks of March and beginning of April have brought many changes and small victories to the valley and our tight knit community as a result of COVID-19. In an unprecedented move, Vail announced that they would be shutting down their North American ski resorts early, including Crested Butte Mountain Resort which brought on an early off-season. Soon after we saw our county close all non-essential businesses and impose travel restrictions. We understand what scary and confusing times these are and that there are probably many questions about COVID-19 and how it will affect our daily lives as well as the local real estate market (be sure to scroll down to read our Current Market Conditions section which addresses this). While our team continues to work remotely, we want to assure you that Gunnison County officials have been proactive in the steps they are taking to stay ahead of this virus. With the first positive case confirmed in Gunnison County on March 7th, officials began closing and restricting business operations throughout the valley. This definitely helped slow the spread of the virus. With additional cases being confirmed in the following weeks, Public Health Orders were issued and our communities were asked to practice social distancing and self isolation. Gunnison County has set up a website dedicated to supplying our communities with information on COVID-19. You can find current updates, community resources, business resources as well as other helpful information here: https://covid19.
Amidst all of this, it has been heartwarming to watch how the Crested Butte community has pulled together to help one another. It is no wonder people from all over want to be part of this amazing community. From our local First Responders and Health Care Providers to local businesses, everyone is pitching in to help out. Many of our restaurants and retail shops have had to close early, leaving hundreds of employees finding themselves suddenly out of work. If you would like to join in and show your support, please consider contributing to the CB Tip Jar and/or First Responder COVID-19 Relief Fund. Please be sure to shop online at your favorite town shops if you find yourself in need of any books, gifts or supplies. Many of them are shipping. These locally owned shops and restaurants are vital to maintain our unique charm and attraction to CB. Last week brought some good news when Hartman Rocks and other Public Lands announced that for now, trails are open as long as trailhead and parking lot load restrictions are respected. We look forward to seeing you all again soon around town! We hear the frustration of some second home owners not being able to come during this time or feeling they need to leave the county if they are here. It seems all resort towns around the world are conflicted with this and just like in real estate, it is a numbers game but in this case it is so as not to overwhelm the limited resources. We are sad there is so much anxiety projected in public forum content and decision making right now. Our hope for our world is our macro, unified efforts now will allow for our individual enjoyment of life sooner as opposed to later. None of us want to miss the gorgeous summer season with family and friends anywhere!
Appreciatively,
Corey & Erin

Current market conditions
Understandably, inquiries on real estate started to slow at the end of March as people rightfully shifted their priorities to getting their family, work and new schedules organized. Though the Public Health Order released by Gunnison County allows realty offices and agents to continue operating remotely, no public contact is permitted. With that said, we are offering virtual tours of our listings for buyers and agents. Clients have enjoyed this method and a few are placing offers site (physically) unseen. March 16-20 was a record week for closings in the Bluebird office, the 1st quarter of 2020 is up 39% over the same period last year and there is almost $19mil currently under contract in the upper valley. Selling price is still holding close to asking. Inventory supply is low so if you are considering listing, now would be a great time to call us to get the ball rolling on the back end. Photography and ad placement can all be going on now behind the scenes!
