Crested Butte has gone from vacation destination to one of the hottest real estate markets in the state. 2020 started out with an air of uncertainty as the worldwide pandemic brought statewide closures. So how did we go from a vacation destination to a red-hot home market? Throughout much of 2020 many of us rode the real estate wave holding our breaths and waiting to see how COVID-19 would affect the local market. The summer season was strong but we all wondered what “off-season” would bring. What we found is that among the widespread shutdowns, the real estate market was actually thriving. While many states adopted the “Safer At Home” approach to social distancing, consumer behaviours shifted as people adjusted to working and schooling from home.

Over the years, Crested Butte had become a hot vacation destination in Colorado; not only in the winter but also summer months. Our market primarily consisted of buyers looking for second and third vacation homes. However, with more and more people able to work from home these days, the market is changing. As people are looking to escape the crowded city life, we are seeing an uptick in primary home sales as well as second homes in Crested Butte. Though still a hot vacation destination, more and more people are calling Crested Butte home.
