Happy November from Crested Butte! The Upper Gunnison Valley has gotten our first official snowstorm of the season so many of us are feeling motivated to ensure our winter to-do list is completed. Temperatures are warming up again next week so there is still time to get necessary tasks done before winter sets in for good. Completing essential tasks around the house in November can help you stay cozy, save energy, and avoid costly repairs. We’ve listed some of our top tasks to tackle prior to the winter and holiday season.
-
- Prepare your home for winter. Check that necessary items such as your heating system, fire alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
- Deep clean your kitchen and bathrooms. Avoid extra stress prior to the holidays by deep cleaning these areas now.
- Clean out summer clothes. Now is a great time to get rid of and donate warm-weather clothing that you didn’t wear this season and make room for warm clothes.
- Make holiday plans. Get your plans in order and skip the worry. Are you traveling? What are you cooking? Door your pets need a sitter? And, perhaps most importantly – decorate!
- Clean Gutters and Downspouts. With leaves and debris having collected throughout summer and fall, it’s important to clear out to avoid water damage and ice dams in the winter.
- Insulate and Weatherstrip. Check your doors and windows for drafts, and replace weatherstripping as needed. Additionally, consider adding insulation to your attic, walls, and basement to reduce heat loss.
- Clean and store outdoor furniture. Properly storing your furniture will prolong its lifespan and keep it in good condition. Clean and cover your patio or garden furniture, and make sure your grill is adequately protected from the elements.
- Drain faucets and sprinkler systems. Prevent frozen pipes and damage to outdoor water fixtures by draining and winterizing these systems.
By tackling these top home tasks in November, you can create a comfortable and safe environment for the winter and holiday season ahead. Taking these proactive steps will not only save you time, money, and energy but also provide you with peace of mind during the colder months. So, grab your checklist, roll up your sleeves, and get your home ready for the season of snow and holidays!
